CTC AUDITION POLICY

Audition and Callback Process

Auditions will take place over two to three days, with callbacks held on a separate day by invitation only. The audition board will consist of the Director, Music Director, Choreographer, and a Casting Director. The Casting Director will be a neutral party to ensure fairness, particularly if close friends or family members of the Director are auditioning. If the Director is not an officer of CTC, a board member will also be present to ensure company standards are upheld.

Each member of the casting board will have a scorecard for each auditioner. The Director will remain objective, even when evaluating a family member. A copy of the scorecard is attached so auditioners can see exactly how they will be assessed.

Additional audition staff, such as an acting coach, assistant director, Music Director, and Choreographer, will submit their scorecards based on their expertise and then depart. They will also be allowed to submit a preferred list and advocate for any candidates they feel strongly about before leaving.

The Music Director will select and provide all vocal sides for callbacks, which will be emailed along with the callback list. Requirements will be as follows:

• Main characters: Two or more high-range songs showcasing different emotions, plus one duet (if applicable).
• Minor characters: One solo.

The Acting Coach or Director will choose the acting sides, which will also be emailed with the callback list and music materials.

At the start of auditions, the casting board will introduce themselves to each audition group.

Callback Structure:

• First half: Vocal auditions.
• Second half: Scene work, where each character will interact with potential supporting roles.

Callbacks will be scheduled with specific time slots for each individual to maximize efficiency. If an auditioner is unable to attend callbacks and submits a virtual audition, other candidates will be informed of their consideration, or a second callback may be scheduled when they are available.

Casting Decisions and Notifications:
Final casting decisions will be made by the Casting Director and the Director. The Stage Manager, Casting Director, and Director will personally reach out to offer roles. Once the lead roles have been accepted, the Stage Manager will email the complete cast list to those who were cast. Those not selected for this production will be notified via email.
